TYPSA US (formerly AZTEC Engineering) is currently seeking resumes from qualified, responsible, self-sufficient, energetic Archaeological Monitors for our Phoenix, Arizona office. The ideal candidate will be motivated to develop and build their personal knowledge and skills to assist with the growth and success of the office. Job Description: 

Perform archaeological monitoring for TYPSA US's Cultural Resources Group, primarily on projects local to the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Duties:

  • Assist with archaeological monitoring and, possibly, testing or data recovery
  • Apply standardized field methods and complete standardized field forms thoroughly and accurately
  • Use a tablet computer with GIS and other applications for collection of archaeological data
  • Assist with lab work and report preparation
  • Communicate effectively and work closely with fellow employees, clients, contractors, and/or vendors

 Job Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills): 

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field; OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Completion of an academic-sponsored field school
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in Cultural Resource Management (CRM)
  • Previous experience performing archaeological excavation; experience in feature documentation preferred
  • Understanding of southwestern archaeology required; previous experience in the Phoenix Basin preferred
  • Experience using GPS and GIS applications, particularly ESRI Field Maps, and digital site recording applications
  • Previous experience working with and/or near mechanical equipment (e.g., backhoes, front loaders, drill rigs) preferred
  • Ability to generate, organize, and maintain accurate field records that meet state and federal standards and guidelines
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team; strong initiative
  • Ability to perform fieldwork in adverse conditions (rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures, arid environments, dense vegetation) and carry up to 25 pounds of equipment
  • Availability for on-call work and night or weekend work preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Reliable transportation, good driving record
  • Valid Driver's License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier
