The ideal candidate will live in or be willing to relocate to the Phoenix metropolitan area and be willing to work in our office/lab at least 50% of the time. Job Description:
The purpose of this role is to propose on, develop, and manage archaeological projects of all types and sizes from start to completion. It also involves managing and developing staff, participating in fieldwork, preparing technical reports, and serving as a technical lead on proposals.
Duties:
- Develop, manage, and participate in all types of archaeological investigations (testing, data recovery, monitoring, survey, and field documentation)
- Prepare proposals and scopes of work and contribute to business development efforts
- Develop, track, and manage project schedules and budgets, including ensuring that deliverables are completed on time and assigning tasks to other staff
- Train and mentor staff in proper field, research, and reporting methods
- Assist with hiring and onboarding new staff, and supervise junior staff
- Serve as primary author on technical reports, research designs, treatment plans, and other technical documents
- Evaluate and make recommendations regarding the NRHP eligibility of archaeological sites, findings of project effects on cultural resources, and appropriate means of avoidance, minimization, and/or mitigation
- Successfully apply for, receive, implement, and adhere to required permits and licenses from public agencies and Tribal governments
- Perform archaeological research and conduct site file searches at federal, state, Tribal, and private repositories
- Understand and assist clients with state, federal, and Tribal cultural resources compliance
- Coordinate effectively with clients, permitting and land managing agencies, Tribes, and subcontractors and vendors
- Take initiative, resolve problems, and improve procedures to ensure tasks are completed effectively
- Work effectively with fellow team members to coordinate work across the Cultural Resources Group and to achieve group and company goals
Key Qualifications Include:
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or closely related field
- Desired: Master’s degree or PhD in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field preferred
- Registration as a Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) or Registered Archaeologist (RA), or willingness and ability to register once hired
- Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in Cultural Resource Management with a minimum of two (2) years of experience supervising and managing projects and staff and preparing technical reports
- Previous experience as a project manager responsible for the planning, implementation, and reporting of cultural resource projects in the Southwest and/or Great Basin regions preferred
- Experience successfully directing all types of archaeological investigations (survey, testing, data recovery, monitoring)
- Ability to qualify at a supervisory level for state and federal archaeological permits in AZ, NV, and/or UT required; ability to be permitted as a Project Director or Principal Investigator by the Arizona State Museum preferred
- Advanced technical expertise in a field such as bioarchaeology, flaked stone analysis, ground stone analysis, or zooarchaeology preferred
- Experience working with state departments of transportation preferred
- Experience with project financial management software (e.g., Deltek Vision) preferred
