“From Without and Within: Long-Distance Interactions, Culture Change, and Culture Contact in Arizona”

Friday, October 28, 2011
Arizona Historical Society Museum
Tucson, Arizona

The Board of Directors of the Arizona Archaeological Council (AAC) is pleased to announce the 2011 AAC Fall Conference. This year’s conference is being held in conjunction with the 69th Annual Plains Anthropological Conference which will be held across the street at the Marriott University Park Hotel in Tucson, October 26–29.

This is the first time the Plains Conference will be held outside of the Plains. As a benefit of membership, all AAC members who attend the 2011 AAC Fall Conference are invited to hear papers presented at the Plains Conference. For full benefits to the Plains Conference, including receptions and printed programs, AAC members must register for the Plains Conference. For more information about the Plains Conference, please visit http://www.pac69.com.

This year’s theme, “From Without and Within: Long-Distance Interactions, Culture Change, and Culture Contact in Arizona,” emphasizes archaeological research within Arizona that has an explicit focus on exploring regional or inter-regional interactions and relationships in the past. This theme also reflects our partnership with a regional conference devoted to understanding Plains history and prehistory by highlighting scales of human practice and behaviors that are often the focus of inter-regional studies in Southwest archaeology.

AAC Fall Conference Schedule and Abstracts

This year's conference will feature a number of scholarly presentations that focus on themes of interaction and culture change in Arizona prehistory.
